Commagic Chat for WordPress
The Commagic Chat plugin adds the chat to your WordPress site and sends entries from your contact forms to Commagic as leads.
1. Install the plugin
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for "Commagic Chat", click Install Now, then Activate.
Or, if you have the plugin as a ZIP file: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the file, click Install Now, then Activate.
2. Get a WordPress connection code
- Sign in to your Commagic dashboard at https://app.commagic.ai.
- Open Integrations → Website chat → WordPress plugin.
- Click "Get a WordPress connection code" and copy the code.
3. Connect
- In WordPress, go to Settings → Commagic Chat.
- Paste the code and click Connect.
- Visit your site: the chat button is in the bottom corner.
Your site must be reachable from the internet while it connects, because Commagic briefly checks that the code is being used on your site. A staging site behind a password or on a private network cannot connect.
4. Customise the chat
Under Settings → Commagic Chat you can change the button text and colour, and untick "Show the chat on this website" to hide the chat without disconnecting. What the assistant says is set up in your Commagic dashboard.
5. Form entries become leads
While the site is connected and lead capture is on for your account, entries from these form plugins are sent to Commagic as leads:
- Contact Form 7
- Elementor Forms
- WPForms
- Fluent Forms
- Gravity Forms
- Ninja Forms
Passwords, hidden fields, captcha and security tokens, uploaded files, cookies and IP addresses are never sent. Lead capture is switched on or off in your Commagic dashboard; the settings page in WordPress shows whether it is on. Entries are sent in the background, so visitors never wait.
6. Disconnect
Click Disconnect under Settings → Commagic Chat. The plugin asks Commagic to revoke this site's connection, then removes the chat and stops sending form entries from this site.
If Commagic cannot be reached at that moment, the site stays connected and you are asked to try again. Deactivating or deleting the plugin on its own does not revoke the connection, so disconnect first.
Troubleshooting
"This website could not be verified"
While connecting, Commagic makes one request to your site's REST API (under /wp-json/). Make sure the site is public and that no security plugin or firewall blocks the WordPress REST API, then try again.
"The code has expired" or "has already been used"
Codes work once and expire after a short time. Get a new code in your dashboard and connect again.
The chat does not appear
Check that "Show the chat on this website" is ticked, clear any page cache or caching plugin, and reload the page.
Form entries do not arrive
Check that lead capture is on in your Commagic dashboard and that the form is made with one of the supported plugins. Entries are sent with WP-Cron; if WP-Cron is disabled on your site, make sure a server cron job runs it.
